DENNIS HAMMOND

Dennis Hammond departed this life Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter. He was born to the late Lucious Jr. and Clara Mae Stokes Hammond on June 6, 1957, in Sumter.

He joined Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and later joined Trinity Presbyterian Church in Mayesville.

Dennis worked as a brick mason for many years with Lucious Hammond and Sons Brick Work.

Loving memories will be cherished by his wife, Shirley Hayes Hammond of the home; three sisters, Loretta H. Johnson (Levi) of Columbia, Katherine H. Robinson of Midway, Georgia, and Denise H. Heyward (Herbert) of Sumter; one brother, Cleveland L. Hammond (Jennifer) of Sumter; stepchildren, Dale Hayes and Janice Haynesworth of Sumter, Michael Sullivan of Columbia and Peter Sullivan (Michelle) of Gastonia, North Carolina; seven grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lucious A. and Ricky Hammond; and a sister, Sherlyann H. Rock.

Public viewing will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Sumter Funeral Service.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hillside Memorial Park with Pastor Othan F. Sharp officiating. The funeral cortege will depart from 1015 White Horse St., Sumter, at 10:15 a.m.

Due to COVID-19, face masks are required for all visitations and services.
