ALEXANDRIA, Va. - David Lee Chappell, 55, beloved husband of Deborah Chappell, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019, at his son's residence in Alexandria.

Mr. Chappell was born on March 9, 1963, in Henderson, Nevada. He moved to Sumter with his family as a young child and made Sumter his home for the rest of his life. He was known by many in the area through his work and involvement in the community. He loved his family and friends dearly and will be missed by all.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his son, Glenn Chappell of Alexandria; a sister, JoAnn Kohl of Sumter; nine beloved half brothers and sisters; and four nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Margaret Chappell; his stepmother, Lucille Chappell; and his stepbrother, James Earl Williams.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John E. McLeod officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be Deaver Kohl, Donald Fitch, Laurie Brown, Bobby Porter, Allen Smith, Don Riley, Raymond Ragin, Jimmy Witherspoon, Rob Arnette and Randall Plummer.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

The family has chosen Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home in Alexandria and Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home in Sumter for the arrangements.
