David Andrew "Bobby" Sherod died Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at his residence in Jamaica, N.Y.

Born in Alcolu on Nov. 19, 1951, he was a son of the late Johnnie Sherod and Violet Frierson Sherod. During his youth he united his membership with Reeseville AME Church. He attended the public schools of Clarendon County. After graduating from Manning Training High School, Bobby ventured to New York and began employment with Bayside Chrysler Plymouth Company as parts manager. Prior to his illness, he was employed as a truck driver with Airland Express.

Survivors include his loving wife of 39 years, Lemelle Richburg Sherod; two sons, Dwayne Austin and David Odonas; a daughter, Denise Stunford; three brothers, Thomas, Curtis (Carolyn) and Kenneth (Gwendolyn); a sister, Marie Smalls (Nathan); four grandchildren, Jessica, McKayla, A.J. and Andres; a mother-in-law, Edith Bethune Richburg; two brothers-in-law, Johnny (Julia) Richburg and Lee Ernest (Laura) Richburg; two sisters-in-law, Mary Sherod and Edith Richburg-Holliday; an aunt, Marie Frierson (Gilbert) McCoy; and two Godchildren, LaTrell and Tia Mai Carter.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Johnny, Samuel and Hezekiah; and two sisters, Eugenia and Mary Lou.

Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at Reeseville AME Church in Alcolu with the Rev. Marie Harvin, pastor officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

The family received friends at the home of his mother-in-law, Edith Bethune Richburg, 306 Dyson St., Manning.
