D. NORRIS YATES

Donald Norris Yates, 70, widower of Hazel Oakley Yates, died Monday, July 5, 2010, at his home in Manning.

Born Dec. 8, 1939, in Turbeville, he was a son of the late Sam E. and Bessie Joye Yates. He was formerly employed by Coca-Cola in Sumter and was of the Southern Methodist faith.

Survivors include a daughter, Robin Yates of Sumter; two grandchildren, Lane Browder and Regan Yates; four sisters, Joyce Marvin Mixon of Florence, Sherian Matthews of Turbeville, Kay Player (Mac) of Sumter and Sandra Gaskins (Larry) of Thailand; and a brother, Jack Yates (Rosemary) of Aloha, Ore.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gina Yates; a son, Donald Norris Yates Jr.; and a sister, Rosa Mae Kelly.

Funeral services were held July 9 at the funeral home with the Rev. Jack Coker officiating. Burial followed in theTurbeville United Methodist Church cemetery.
