Camp Happy Days is postponed

MANNING - Camp Happy Days, a camp for children diagnosed with cancer and their siblings, has been a part of Clarendon County for more than 25 years. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's weeklong camp that is typically held the week of July 4 has been postponed.

Donations of hats, T-shirts, sunscreen, toothpaste, other toiletries and cash donations are now being accepted in preparation for the camp's return later this summer or fall. No donation is too small.

Cancer OverComers' Walk is postponed

MANNING - The 2020 Clarendon County Cancer OverComers' Walk will not be held on July 25. The walk has been postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. A new date in the fall is being considered. An announcement is expected before the end of June.

Manning Farmers Market is open

MANNING - The Manning Farmers Market at the corner of Brooks and Church streets is open from 8 a.m. to noon each Saturday.

Gardeners and farmers have a variety of locally grown vegetables and fruit on sale.

Harvin Clarendon County Library is open

MANNING - The Harvin Clarendon County Library, 215 N. Brooks St., has reopened with limited hours. The library is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Visitors can pick up books, send a fax or get photocopies. It's not too late to stop by the library and sign up for the Summer Reading Program.

Red, White and Blue Fireworks Show is today

MANNING - The City of Manning is hosting a July 4th celebration at 9:45 p.m. today in downtown Manning.

City officials are asking that everyone stay in their cars for the fireworks or stay a minimum of six feet from others.

Annual Eagle Point Parade will be held

MANNING - The shortest parade in South Carolina is still on schedule beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The annual Eagle Point Parade that travels through the small community nestled on the shores of Lake Marion near the Santee Dam usually features festively decorated bicycles, golf carts, cars and always a huge Clarendon County fire truck pulling up the rear.

Guests can watch from the vehicles or alongside the roadway. Please adhere to the social distancing guidelines.

New Zion Fourth of July Parade is canceled

NEW ZION - The COVID-19 pandemic has caused the cancellation of one of the most unusual July 4th parades in South Carolina.

The New Zion parade that travels through New Zion from east to west and then turns around and heads back the other way will not be held this year.

CSD2 offering free meal program

MANNING - Clarendon School District 2 is participating in the Community Eligibility Provision for the 2020-21 school year. Section 104(a) of the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010 amended section 11(a)(1) of the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act to provide an alternative to household applications for free and reduced-price meals in local educational agencies and schools with increased levels of low-income students. This alternative is referred to as the Community Eligibility Provision. All students enrolled in the school/district may participate in the breakfast and lunch program at no charge to them. Families will not have to fill out meal applications.

Breakfast and lunch meals follow the USDA guidelines for healthy school meals. Please encourage students to participate in the school meal program.

Parents and guardians that do not want their child/children to participate in CEP may want to discuss this matter with Alfano on an informal basis. Parents/guardians wanting to make a formal appeal may make a request either orally or in writing to Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jacqueline Inabinette at P O Box 1252. 15 Major Drive, Manning SC 29102 for a hearing to appeal the decision.
