A new free COVID-19 vaccine clinic is coming to Clarendon County this Saturday.

The Clarendon County NAACP is offering Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine at its first COVID-19 vaccine clinic on May 8. The clinic will be at the Clarendon County NAACP Branch Office at 21 Railroad St. There is no pre-registration required, and it's first come, first served, according to Willie Briggs, president of Clarendon County NAACP.

Briggs said they are bringing this clinic closer to smaller communities, including Silver, Paxville, Alcolu, Gable and Summerton, to get residents in these rural areas vaccinated as quickly as possible.

He said the NAACP has also been working to inform the public about the vaccine and dispelling rumors and misinformation about the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Moderna vaccine requires two shots. Everyone aged 16 or older is eligible for the vaccine.

In Clarendon County, more than 9,000 people have been fully vaccinated, and more than 11,000 have received at least one dose.

The clinic will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
