Clarendon Hall to continue closure through April 30

SUMMERTON -- Clarendon Hall’s campus will remain closed through April 30 for on-campus learning, activities and gatherings.  Earlier today, Gov. Henry McMaster issued a statement with S.C. State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman and is expected to issue an executive order in the coming days closing all schools in South Carolina to help stop the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Clarendon Hall Head of School Kelley Wannamaker stated, “While we had hoped to reopen earlier, we know extending the closure is in the best interest of our students, parents and staff.  I want to commend our faculty and Saints Family for willingly embracing our online and in-home learning platform.”  Wannamaker continued, “Our teachers are continuing to teach and post assignments.  It is imperative students complete and submit assignments to their teachers to remain on track and receive credit for courses.”

Due to the extended closure, all sports activities and practices will continue to be suspended.  The junior/senior prom scheduled for April 9 and May Day Program scheduled for April 26 are postponed and alternative plans are being explored.  Students and teachers will observe the scheduled spring break, April 10-19, and no assignments will be due during this period.

As communicated on March 16, the deadline to register for the 2020-21 school year is Wednesday, April 1.  Please mail forms and the registration forms to P.O. Box 609 Summerton, SC 29148-0609.  All other deadlines stated in the enrollment forms for 2020-21 still apply.

Clarendon Hall will continue to monitor the situation and update families of any schedule changes via the automated call system, social media and news media outlets.  Wannamaker stated, “I implore everyone to do their part to help stop the spread of this disease.  This includes staying home, social distancing, and following directives from the CDC and DHEC.”
