CLARENDON COUNTY - The Clarendon County Voter Registration and Elections Office is participating in the Sept. 20 National Voter Registration Day.

"I am excited to be a part of one of the greatest civic duties that a citizen can possess," said Sharmane Anderson, executive director of the office. "The increase with local citizens desiring to participate in our local elections as poll managers and volunteers has been rewarding. It is our hope that we can increase voter registration and voter participation through outreach opportunities such as this."

To vote in the Nov. 11 General Election, individuals need to be registered either online or in person by Oct. 7, which is less than one month away.

The offfice will join thousands of other election officials nationwide to take part in the 10th anniversary of National Voter Registration Day, a nonpartisan civic holiday that aims to help all eligible voters participate in democracy. To launch the county's efforts, the Clarendon office will host a voter registration drive on Sept. 20 at Manning High School, 2155 Paxville Highway.

To ensure the success of the Sept. 20 event, the Clarendon election office is asking for community partners, including libraries, nonprofits, businesses and more, to join hands with them on Sept. 20 by signing up as official holiday partners and hosting local registration drives to coincide with the MHS event on National Voter Registration Day.

"Over the last decade, National Voter Registration Day has stood as a testament to the broad-based, bipartisan support for voter registration as the cornerstone of our shared democracy," said Brian Miller, executive director of the collaborative National Voter Registration Day effort. "As we mark the 10th anniversary of our work to get every eligible American @VoteReady for their next trip to the polls, we'll continue to depend upon the same grassroots, community-based energy that's made this civic holiday successful year after year."

To sign up as a partner, visit NationalVoterRegistrationDay.org. Partners will receive free training opportunities, voter registration resources, organizing and communication toolkits to support both in-person and virtual events, and a supply of National Voter Registration Day-branded posters and stickers. Individuals interested in attending or volunteering at a voter registration event on the holiday can search for nearby events on the National Voter Registration Day website, scvotes.gov, for further information about how to get involved.

Anderson said that voter registration forms may be picked up at the Clarendon County Voter Registration and Elections Office, 411 Sunset Drive.

Annually, National Voter Registration Day is held on a Tuesday in September. Since 2012, more than 4.7 million voters have registered on National Voter Registration Day.
