The Clarendon County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help in the investigation of a shooting at a county park on Feb. 3.

According to Sheriff Tim Baxley, deputies responded to a shooting near the basketball court of JC Britton Park on Branchview Drive, located near the Clarendon County Recreation Department at 3057 Raccoon Road, at 7 p.m. Upon arrival, they found a mixture of 9mm and 45mm shell casings in the roadway.

After an initial investigation, deputies learned a minor had been shot in the upper hip area and transported to McLeod Health Clarendon. The minor, whose injuries were not life-threatening, said he was shot while at the park with his friends and did not see who shot him, Baxley said.

According to Baxley and the CAD Reporting System, about six shots-fired calls have been reported outside the park area in the last year.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Clarendon County Sheriff's Office at (803) 435-4414 and ask for the Investigations Division.
