Clarendon County woman found slain in her home; suspect sought

CLARENDON COUNTY – A 73-year-old Oakdale woman was found dead inside her home about 11:30 a.m. Dec. 14.
According to Clarendon County Sheriff Tim Baxley, Mae E. Burgess was last seen alive about 12:30 p.m. Dec. 13.
Baxley said the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Oakdale community to assist the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office with an investigation. Upon arrival, Burgess was found dead inside her home.
Baxley said that Burgess’ death, which has been ruled a homicide, has been linked to several assaults and larcenies that have occurred in Sumter County.
Baxley added that his investigators along with agents from the State Law Enforcement Division and officers from SCSO are working together to locate the suspect that is shown in the photo, as well as a 2017 silver or possibly light gray Toyota Corolla bearing South Carolina tag #TGQ 705 that was taken from Burgess’ residence.
