Clarendon County School District announces monthly teacher, staff recognitions

CLARENDON COUNTY - A teacher and a staff member from each of the Clarendon County School District's 11 schools will be recognized each month for the important roles they play in the lives of the district's students.

School officials said it "takes a village to educate and empower our children and build a culture of learning in our schools. Our teachers and staff play an important role in ensuring that our students have a safe environment to excel, and that change happens in the lives of our young adults, families and the community. Each month, we will recognize outstanding teachers and staff members who are making a positive impact in Clarendon County School District."

To honor the teachers and staff members, the district created a "Teacher Feature of the Month" award and a "Staff Feature of the Month" award. Those receiving the awards are nominated by their colleagues for excellence in the classroom and positive contributions to Clarendon County School District.

The teachers and staff members are nominated by their colleagues based on the following criteria: impact, motivation, leadership, creativity and imagination, and collaboration. The teachers and staff members will be chosen on how well they get their students excited about class, helping them understand homework and assignment/job duties, inspiring others, friendliness, enthusiasm, willingness to help with activities and attend school functions as well as myriad other characteristics.

Along with an award, each teacher and staff member chosen will receive a gift from one of the district's local partners.

For September, the following individuals were recognized:

- Summerton Early Childhood Center: James White, teacher, and Dorothy James, staff

- Manning Early Childhood Center: Patricia Moyd, teacher, and Shannon Spann, staff

- Manning Elementary School: Shanna Morgan, teacher, and Robin Kelly, staff

- Dr. Rose Wilder Elementary School: Ryan Bell Bates, teacher, and Albert Thomas, staff

- Walker-Gamble Elementary School: Kat Coker, teacher, and Aunde Harrington, staff

- Manning Primary School: Loretta Brailsford, teacher, and James Carter, staff

- East Clarendon Middle/High School: Coach Curtis Johnson, teacher, and Mack Brown, staff

- Manning Junior High School: Courtney Holladay, teacher, and Elijah Oliver, staff

- Manning High School: Chelsea Thomas, teacher, and Daydra Brown, staff

- Scott's Branch Middle/High School: Matilda Mack, teacher, and Tanika Bowman, staff

- F.E. DuBose Career Center: Blake Driggers, teacher, and Kimberly Johnson, staff
