Fire and Life Safety Community Fair Day on Oct. 9

SUMMERTON - Clarendon County Fire Rescue will present its 2021 Fire and Life Safety Community Fair Day from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Oct. 9 at 6 N. Cantey St. as part of 2021 Duckfest.

CCFR will present several demonstrations and programs including safe cooking, fire extinguisher training, children's firefighter course, side-by-side live burn and parents can have their childrens' car sets checked.

Solid Waste and Recycling event on Oct. 16

MANNING - Clarendon County will host a Solid Waste and Shredding Event from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Oct. 16 at 411 Sunset Drive.

SHRED-WITH-US will also be onsite.

Items that will be accepted during the event will include TVs with screens intact, monitors, video display devices, all intact computers, CPUs, keyboards, printers, CD/DVD players, game consoles, small handheld electronics, cell phones, stereo tuners, radios, speakers, microwaves, vacuum cleaners and more.

Items that will not be accepted include refrigerators, washing machines, clothes dryers, dishwashers, mercury containing devices (thermometers, fire alarms), hazardous waste chemicals, light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, biowaste and more.

This event is for Clarendon County residents only. No business e-waste or business shredding.

Vaccination clinic Set for Oct. 16

MANNING - To follow up from the vaccination clinic on Sept. 11, the City of Manning in partnership with HopeHealth, the Department of Health and Environmental Control and Emory University on Atlanta, will hold a vaccine clinic for initial dose, second dose or booster (for qualified recipients) from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Oct. 16 in the Manning Fire Department's bay area, 38 W. Boyce St.

Manning Mayor Julia Nelson said that due to the assistance of Manning's hometown daughter, Brittany Prince, who facilitated Emory University's financial donation, a $25 gift certificate will be offered to the first 100 individuals that receive a vaccination of their choice: Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson and Johnson.

Free masks will also be available to those receiving vaccinations.

This event is open to the public regardless of where you live.

Harvin Clarendon County Library needs volunteers

MANNING - The Harvin Clarendon County Library, 215 N. Brooks St., needs volunteers.

The library needs volunteers for various responsibilities including manning the front desk, restocking books, assisting the public and more.

The library is also in need of a part-time employee that could work a 20-hour-a-week fixed schedule with evening or Saturday hours a possibility.

Council of Garden Clubs host "Color Magic in the Garden" on Oct. 20

MANNING - The Manning Council of Garden Clubs is hosting "Color Magic in the Garden" at 3 p.m. Oct. 20 at Weldon Auditorium, 7 Maple St.

The guest speaker for the event is Bryce Lane, a garden enthusiast, nationally renowned lecturer and retired professor from the Department of Horticulture at North Carolina State University.

The event is free and open to the public. COVID protocols will be followed.

Francis Marion Symposium set for Oct. 22 and 23

MANNING - Calling all history buffs. You are invited to the 19th Francis Marion Symposium beginning at 2 p.m. Oct. 22 at the F.E. Dubose Career Center on the campus of Central Carolina Technical Collage,

The two-day event that concludes on Oct. 23 explores the Revolutionary War's Southern Campaign.

14th Annual A Second Chance Animal Shelter Charity Golf Classic to be held Oct. 23

MANNING - The 14th annual A Second Chance Animal Shelter's Charity Golf Classic will be held on Oct. 23 at Players Course at Wyboo, 1560 Players Course Drive.

Registration will be held at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

The cost of the tournament will be $35 per person for Players Course members and $50 per person for non-members with payment to accompany the entry form. The tournament package will include greens fee and cart, continental breakfast, lunch and prizes.

The tournament will be four-man Captain's Choice with a 10-point handicap system.
