Clarendon briefs for July 21, 2023: 'Back in the Day Field Day,' SLED visits library, golf and more

The Gift Place Inc. hosting special day for families with children who have lost parents on dialysis on July 29

MANNING - The Gift Place Inc., a 501c3 organization, is hosting "Back in the Day Field Day" beginning at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 29, at J.C. Britton Park, 3057 Raccoon Road.

The fundraiser is for families with children who have lost parents on dialysis.

Activities will include dodgeball, tug-of-war, double Dutch, sweet potato in a spoon, hula-hoop tournaments, kickball, a treasure hunt, sack race and more. Attendees will be able to purchase arts and crafts and enjoy game booths for just a quarter and tournament games for just a dime.

Volunteers are needed.

Recreation Department fall sports registration begins July 31

CLARENDON COUNTY - Registration for Clarendon County Recreation Department soccer, tackle football, flag football, girls volleyball and golf will be held from July 31 to Aug. 18.

Registration at the Manning office at J.C. Britton Park, 3057 Raccoon Road, will be accepted from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Registration at the Turbeville office at Smith Field, 1380 Gamble St., will be accepted from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Children can also be registered online at https://clarendon.recdesk.com/Community/Home.

Manning Farmer's Market is open every Saturday

MANNING - Fresh locally grown produce is available from 8 a.m. until noon at the Manning Farmer's Market at the corner of Church and Brooks streets.

Local gardeners as well as local farmers and others will have a variety of fresh produce for sale.

County Library calendar includes SLED on July 27

MANNING - The Harvin Clarendon County Library will host a variety of events in July:

- Friday, July 21 - Teen Campfire Conversations will be held from 5-7 p.m.

- Monday, July 24 - The craft will be Egg Carton Cars. The Book Club - Genre Jumpers will meet at 4:30 p.m.

- Tuesday, July 25 - Tip Top Shape Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.

- Wednesday, July 26 - Storytime at 10:30 a.m.

- Thursday, July 27 - OATS (Older Adults Training and Services) will be held at 10 a.m., and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division will provide a special program at 1 p.m.

Let's Read Clarendon at Walker Gamble Park on July 26

NEW ZION - Let's Read Clarendon will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, at Walker Gamble Park, 2358 Walker Gamble Road.

Young Miss Teen Clarendon County Lexi Goff will be the guest reader.

Children can bring their own books or choose one from the park's mini library.

Everyone is welcome to attend each event.

Manning back-to-school events

MANNING - The Back 2 School Backpack Giveaway is set from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, July 22, at Manning Elementary School's gymnasium, 311 W. Boyce St. Backpacks and supplies will be given away. Music, games, prizes, free food for students, face painting and more can be enjoyed. Backpacks and school supplies will be distributed while they last. Students must be present to receive items. The Back 2 School Cookout presented by Jason Sarita and Tburr will be held from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, July 23, at J.C. Britton Park, 8497 Raccoon Road. One hundred backpacks will be given away along with supplies for all grades.

HopeHealth Golf Classic to be held Nov. 16

MANNING - Save the Date of Nov. 16 for the HopeHealth Golf Classic, which will be held at Wyboo Golf Club, 2565 Players Course Drive.

The tournament will be a four-man Captain's Choice tournament. Sponsorships are available.
