City of Manning hosts Unity Service on Jan. 16

MANNING - The City of Manning is hosting a Unity Service on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 16, from 9 to 9:30 a.m. in the Manning Fire Department's training room, 38 W. Boyce St.

On the program will be Melanie Colclough, executive director of SC Arts Alliance; Matthew B. Cartledge, engineer/firefighter with the Manning Fire Department; and Dr. Brenda C. Clark, a retired educator.

The "Day of Service Project" will be a litter pickup. City officials are asking individuals who want to participate in the service project to gather at the Manning Fire Department at 9:45 a.m. for information on litter pickup destinations.

Winter Coat and Apparel Giveaway on Jan. 16

SUMMERTON - Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Phi Omega Omega Chapter will host a Clarendon County Winter Coat & Apparel Giveaway for adults and children from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at K&H Resource Center, 45 S. Church St.

New and gently used winter items will be given away.

In case of inclement weather, the giveaway will be held at Historic Liberty Hill AME Church, 2808 Liberty Hill Road.

Learn to East Healthier program at HCCL Jan. 21

MANNING - The Harvin Clarendon County Library has partnered with the Clemson SNAP-Ed program to host "Want to Learn to Eat Healthier" at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at the library, 215 N. Brooks St.

A class on food groups will be offered along with a food preparation demonstration.

Winter 22 Educational Festival on Jan. 28

SUMMERTON - The Save the Children's Winter 22 Educational Festival will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Scott's Branch Middle-High School, 9253 Alex Harvin Highway.

Students from Summerton Early Childhood Center, Dr. Rose H. Wilder Elementary School and Scott's Branch Middle-High School, their families, and community members are invited to attend the festival.

It will be a fun day with informational sessions, parenting tips, games, prizes, vendors and a hot meal.

Meet Author Cynthia O on Jan. 28 at library

MANNING - The Harvin Clarendon County Library's Friends of the Library is hosting "An Afternoon with the Author" at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at the library, 215 N. Brooks St.

Cynthia O, the author of "Dream Like A King," will be telling her story and autographing copies of her book.

The library will also feature a craft "fit for kings and queens" that day.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase. No purchase is necessary to attend the event.

Annual St. Matthias Oyster Roast is Jan. 28

SUMMERTON - St. Matthias Anglican Church has tickets on sale now for its annual oyster roast that begins at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Flowers Farm Tomato Shed on K.W. Hodge Road, off U.S. 301 south of Manning.

Tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased from church members.

The roast also has barbecue, soups, dessert and much more.

'American Pickers' visiting area in February 2023

CLARENDON COUNTY - The "American Pickers" TV show on the History Channel will be visiting the Midlands of South Carolina in February 2023 looking for "interesting characters with fascinating items and lots of them."

The show is looking for large, rare collections and antiques.

I-95 exit 115 entrance ramp Northbound closed

RAM BAY - The entrance ramp onto Interstate 95 at exit 115 is closed for northbound traffic.

Until further notice, all traffic headed north on I-95 exit 115 must use alternate routes.
