CHARLES GABLE HOLLAND

Charles Gable Holland, 78, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2020, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia.

Born in Sumter on March 15, 1942, he was a son of the late Ralph T. and Lottie G. Holland.

Mr. Holland was a lifelong resident of Sumter and was a member of The Church of the Holy Comforter and was also involved with the community theater. He worked part time as a computer programmer for several local businesses. Very mechanically inclined, he enjoyed flying small engine aircraft and was an avid sailor and boater. He built his own 22-foot wooden sailboat, "The Victorie," and often sailed on Lake Marion.

He attended Central Institute for the Deaf in St. Louis, Missouri, Edmunds High School in Sumter and graduated from Camden Military Academy in 1963. He then attended Montreat College in Black Mountain, North Carolina, and graduated at Elon College, Burlington, North Carolina, in 1968.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Ann C. Holland, and elder niece, Michele Holland Kolakowski, both of Boulder County, Colorado, and a younger niece, Kathryn M. Holland of Encinitas, California.

He was preceded in death by his elder brother, Ralph T. Holland Jr.

Private graveside services will be held in Sumter Cemetery.
