MANNING - Clarendon County School District culinary students recently attended the Future Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Conference in Denver, Colorado, and received honors, according to a news release from the district.

Based on placement in the regional conference, five CCSD students were selected to represent the state nationally. ZaKia Baxter received a Silver in the culinary competition, and Alayna Lemon represented as the SC FCCLA vice president of community service, and Jakez Rush, Shayla Bennett and Jaylen Sweat attended as top members.

Jean Shaw, culinary instructor at F.E. DuBose Career Center, spoke about the students' success in the release. "This is a great group of students. Our program continues to grow knowledgeable students in culinary arts to prepare them for a career in food service, catering and event planning."

High school students in CCSD who are interested in culinary arts travel to F.E. DuBose Career Center to complete classes and earn food service certifications.

"F.E. DuBose Career Center continues to prepare students for careers of their choice in culinary arts, law enforcement, health science, welding, early childhood, cosmetology, building and construction, and automotive mechanics," said Dr. Keisa Carr, interim director at FEDCC, in the release. "We are preparing our students for their future, and these culinary students are ahead of the game."
