CAROLYN GRACE CHASSEREAU BAYS

Carolyn Grace Chassereau Bays, age 90, passed into the company of her savior on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022, at the home of her daughter.

Carolyn was born in Bamberg County, a daughter of the late Little Henry Chassereau and Idalia Warren Chassereau. She served loyally as a member of civil service on Shaw Air Force Base for more than 20 years and was a longtime member of Shaw Heights Baptist Church. She loved her family more than life and touched the lives of everyone she knew. A great lover of animals of all shapes and sizes, Carolyn never met a stranger and showed kindness to all who knew her. She loved shopping, bargain hunting and, above all, spending time with her beloved children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Left to honor her memory are her three brothers, Olin Chassereau and his wife, Claudia, Henry L. Chassereau and his wife, Lorraine, and Daniel Chassereau and his wife, Patsy; two daughters, Jennifer Bays Tankersley and Shelby L. Mills; her son, Timothy Bays and his wife, Marcia; daughter-in-law, Chris Bays; 25 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Alfred Bays Sr.; two sisters, Helen Williams and Larue Smith; her son, Joe Alfred Bays Jr.; her parents; one niece; and one nephew.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Thursday in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel. An interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery. Officiating the service will be Dr. Robert White of Shaw Heights Baptist Church.

The visitation will take place one hour prior to the service on Thursday from 11 a.m. to noon at Bullock Funeral Home.

Her pallbearers will be David Hood, Tristen Iwanczenko, Tim Benenhaley and Perry Benenhaley.
