Golf tourney at Wyboo course is on Saturday

MANNING - Jordan Crossroads Ministry Center-Haven of Rest is hosting its first golf tournament beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday at Players Course at Wyboo, 1560 Players Course Drive.

The tourney will feature captain's choice four-person teams. The entry fee is $50 with the check-in at 9 a.m. Coffee and a sweet bun will be provided at check-in along with a meal after the tournament. Roy Cash will speak during Blessing of the Harvest on Sept. 23

SUMMERTON - A Blessing of the Harvest will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at the home of Chris and Wendy Cogdill, 5689 Gov. Richardson Road, Summerton.

The guest speaker will be Roy Cash, a retired U.S. Navy captain, fighter pilot and former commanding officer of Top Gun. Attendees are asked to bring a chair, covered dish, a grateful heart and a friend.

Financial Aid and Scholarship Workshop will be on Saturday

MANNING - Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1794 Old Georgetown Road, is sponsoring a Financial and Scholarship Workshop at 10 a.m. Saturday. The speaker will be Rachel Jones from Voorhees College. The event is being hosted by Brothers and Sisters United Outreach Program.

Harvin Clarendon County Library Board to meet on Sept. 16

MANNING - The Harvin Clarendon County Board of Trustees will meet at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Clarendon County Administration Building, 411 Sunset Drive.

The agenda for the meeting will include financial updates and discussions on the library's mission statement/tagline and the library's computer use policy. The meeting is open to the public.

CSD2 is now accepting referrals for its gifted

and talented program

MANNING - Clarendon School District 2 is beginning the process of screening students for possible placement in the Gifted and Talented Academic PRIDE Program.

Students in grades 3-8 who are new to the district or who have not been identified through census testing may be referred for screening by administrators, teachers, guidance counselors, parents, peers or themselves.

The deadline for referrals is Oct. 7. Referral forms are available in the guidance offices at Manning Primary School, Manning Elementary School and Manning Junior High School. For more information, contact Marie Gibbons at (803) 435-4435 or mgibbons@csd2.org.

Mike Wainright in concert on Sept. 29

MANNING - Second Baptist Church Manning, 323 Alfred Henry Drive, is hosting a concert by Mike Wainright at 6 p.m. Sept. 29. Everyone is invited to attend.

Brain Health walk on Oct. 5 includes prizes, refreshments and more

MANNING - The Walk for Brain Health will be held at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 5 at the Manning High School football field's track area, 2155 Paxville Highway.

The event is sponsored by the Clarendon County Pilot Club, LMA Anchor Club, Manning High School FFA and Agape Hospice.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the walk at 9:30 a.m. Refreshments, prizes and more will be offered. To participate, please offer a $10 donation.

CSD2 schools to be open on Oct. 28

MANNING - Clarendon School District 2 will use Oct. 28 as a bad weather makeup day for the time the district was out because of Hurricane Dorian. All CSD2 schools will be open on Oct. 28.

E-waste event is rescheduled for Nov. 16

MANNING - Clarendon County will offer an E-Waste Recycling Collection Event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Administration Building, 411 Sunset Drive, for Clarendon County residents only. Shred-with-Us will be on site to shred important documents free of charge.

Items that will not be accepted include refrigerators, washing machines, clothes dryers, dishwashers, mercury-containing devices (i.e. thermometers and fire alarms), hazardous waste chemicals, light bulbs, fluorescent tubes and bio waste.

Youth Self Defense

and Safety Awareness Training on Oct. 22

MANNING - The Law Enforcement Class at F.E. DuBose Career Center is sponsoring a Youth Self Defense and Safety Awareness Training class from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 22 at F.E. DuBose Career Center, 3351 Sumter Highway.

The "Helping to Protect Our Children" event is free to students ages 5 to 16. Officers with Manning Police Department and Clarendon County Sheriff's Office will be conducting the training.
