BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Brenda L. Johnson, 55, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, at Long Island College Hospital.

Born Aug. 13, 1955, in Brooklyn, she was a daughter of Julia Hammett Weeks Johnson and Leroy "Bird" Johnson and also the daughter of the late Alvin Weeks. She was a graduate of Clara Barton High School and Toro College, Brooklyn. She was a member of Bethel Tabernacle AME Church and the Open Door Church. She was employed with Kings County Hospital and later with the Board of Education.

Survivors besides her parents of Manning include twins, Kira and Kile Sachel; a brother, Tony Weeks; a nephew, Tony Weeks Jr.; five aunts, Dorothy (Jesse) Arnold, Eleanor (James) Griffin, Edith (Matthew) Bradley, Odell Hammett and Thelma Hammett; and three uncles, George Hammett, Robert (Priscilla) Johnson and Charles (Evelyn) Johnson.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at Green Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Green Hill Church Road, Alcolu, with the Rev. James S. Hudley, pastor, officiating. Burial was held in the churchyard cemetery.

The family received friends at the home of her parents, 1670 DuRant Lane, Manning.

JAMES F. McBRIDE

James Frederick McBride, 78, husband of Jeanine Rhode McBride, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.

Born Jan. 12, 1932, in Cambridge, Ohio, he was a son of the late Frederick Allison and Vera Grabans McBride. He was a retired materials manager in electronics; a U.S. Navy and Marine Corps veteran; a graduate of the Ohio State University; and a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. He was a member of the Elks Club, American Legion and Ancient Order of Hibernians; an employee of Wyboo Golf Club; and a member of 40/8.

Survivors besides his wife of Manning include three sons, Frederick Allison McBride and his wife, Denise, of Cambridge, Timothy James McBride and his wife, Cathy, of Fayetteville, Ga., and Thomas Patrick McBride and his wife, Wendy, of Pickerington, Ohio; and six grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah, Ashley, Jimmy, Jacob and Michael McBride.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 2529 Raccoon Road, Manning, with Father Samuel Oloyede officiating, followed by burial at Florence National Cemetery.

The family received friends at the funeral home.
