Body found off Old Pocalla Road in Sumter
This was the 2nd homicide to occur in Sumter County since Thursday.
Sumter County investigators are seeking information about the shooting death of a 38-year-old man who was found dead behind a building in the 1100 block of Old Pocalla Road early Sunday morning.
Russell Eugene Gleghorn, of Hilton Head Island, was found dead after 1 a.m., said Deputy Adrienne Sarvis, public information officer for the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker, Gleghorn was in the area for a biker party.
He said next of kin has been notified, and an autopsy was scheduled for Monday morning.
This was the second homicide to occur in Sumter County since Thursday, when 24-year-old Devin T. Davis, of Nicole Lane, was shot at a Nicole Lane residence and later died at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.
Gleghorn's death was the 15th homicide to occur in Sumter since the beginning of 2020, including 10 in the county and five in the city.
