Sumter County Sheriff’s Office addressed rumors of a student being assaulted at a local high school, determining the report was false.
On Wednesday, May 7, an investigation was launched after deputies responded to the home of an 18-year-old Crestwood High School student who reported being attacked by three unidentified individuals while in the school’s restroom. According to Mark Bordeaux, public information officer for the sheriff's office, the student was unable to provide identifying information about the individuals.
After a detailed review of evidence and interviews, investigators determined the reported assault did not occur and that the claim was fabricated. Upon meeting with the student, the student admitted the claim was untrue, Bordeaux said.
At this time, no charges have been determined. It remains under investigation by Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and Sumter School District.
