Sumter County Museum to hold a "Made in Sumter Craft Fair"

The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) will hold mobile events for REAL IDs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as follows: Wednesday, Oct. 12, Sumter County Library, 111 N. Harvin St.; Thursday, Oct. 13, Lee County Parks & Recreation, 397 Chappell Drive, Bishopville; and Thursday, Oct. 27, Clarendon County Council Chambers, 411 Sunset Drive, Manning. No additional SCDMV services will be offered at these events. The cost to purchase a REAL ID driver's license is $25. With proper documentation, customers who are 17 years old or older can change their identification card (no driving privileges) to a REAL ID card for free. A REAL ID card for customers who are 5 to 16 years old is $15. To obtain a REAL ID, you must provide your social security number, proof of identity and citizenship (government-issued birth certificate or valid U.S. Passport), two proofs of current address and proof of all legal name changes (if applicable). The enforcement date for REAL ID is May 3, 2023.

Second Nature will perform at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, on Main Street in front of the Sumter Opera House as part of the Fourth Friday Concert Series. There will be food and drinks available for purchase from Brubakers, SO Cool Italian Icee and Sertoma. The Palmetto Optimist Club will offer free books for the children as well as popcorn for sale. Downtown restaurants will also be open for dine-in or take-out. Bring your chairs and spend an evening enjoying some music and dancing in the streets.

The Sumter County Museum will hold a "Made in Sumter Craft Fair" from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 122 N. Washington St., featuring handmade crafts and merchandise as well as food trucks.

The Sumter Branch NAACP will hold a general membership meeting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, at Morris College, O.R. Ruben Chapel, 100 W. College St. Branch nominating committee will be elected.

In recognition of National Sickle Cell Awareness Month, representatives of the James R. Clark Memorial Sickle Cell Foundation will distribute awareness information from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Sumter County Library, 111 N. Harvin St. The public is invited to attend and register for door prizes.

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 202 will meet at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the American Legion, 310 Palmetto St. New members are welcomed. Contact Jessie Porcher at (803) 698-5240.

A Sumter Friends of the NRA event will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the American Legion, 31 Artillery Lane. Event will feature auctions, raffles, firearms and fun. A Second Chance Animal Shelter's 15th Annual Charity Golf Outing will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Players Course in Manning. Shotgun start.
