Drive-thru community resource fair to be held Friday

In recognition of National Recovery Month, a free drive-thru community resource fair will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Spectrum, 1170 N. Guignard Drive. Sumter Behavioral Health Services, in partnership with Roads of Independence, will host this event. Every September, National Recovery Month is celebrated to increase awareness and understanding of mental and substance use disorders and celebrate the people in recovery. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3034 will host an indoor / outdoor yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 1925 Gion St. For details, go to VFW Post 3034 on Facebook or call Jim Frey at (803) 773-3090.

The Sumter Combat Veterans Group will hold its annual golf tournament on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Crystal Lakes Golf Course, 1305 Clara Louise Kellogg Drive. The following schedule will be observed: 7:30 a.m., registration and breakfast; 8:30 a.m., rules meeting; 8:45 a.m., leave for tee box; and 9 a.m., shotgun start. Lunch will be served as teams come off of the course. Registration fee is $50 per golfer, four-person team, limited to the first 20 teams. Cash prizes will be awarded. The City of Sumter is organizing a litter pick up to be held from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Sept. 19, on Wall Street. Palmetto Pride will provide supplies such as gloves, trash bags and vests for Boy Scout members, who will also be fulfilling some of their community service hours requirement by participating. The Heart of Sumter Neighborhood Association's 14th Annual Art in the Park will be held online from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19.
