SUMMERTON - Annie Mae Wells, 82, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born March 26, 1928, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Chamberlain and Annie Oliver Gibson Sanders. She attended the public schools of Clarendon County. She was joined in holy matrimony to Samuel Wells and later moved to Baltimore, Md., where she was co-owner of Ann & Sam's Grocery Store. She was loving and kind and will be missed by all who knew her.

Two grandchildren she reared as her own preceded her in death, Darius Gibson and Kevinlin Wells.

Survivors besides her husband include two daughters, Maedell (Bobby) Lawson and Shelia Carter, both of Summerton; four sons, Luther Gibson of Baltimore, Davie (Sebrena) Wells and Samuel (Williene) Wells, both of Manning, and Kevin Wells of the home; an adopted son, Sylvester McDonald of Summerton; one sister, Lilly Mae (Jean) Frazier of Philadelphia, Pa.; one brother, Ludie (Ernestine) Gibson of Hialeah, Fla.; an adopted brother, Pastor Bobby (Caroline) McDonald of Manning; an aunt, Annine Mae Brown of Panama City, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Ruth Gibson of Columbia; two brothers-in-law, Jacob (Mamie) Wells of Baltimore and Timothy Hillard of Manning; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three surrogate sisters, Dorothy Brown of Philadelphia, Rachel Hicks of Baltimore and Catherine Pearson of Summerton; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at Spring Hill AME Church with the Rev. O. Madison, pastor, officiating, and the Rev. Bobby McDonald, eulogist. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
