PINEWOOD - Annie Lou "Joy" Elliott, 85, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at Lake Marion Nursing Home, Summerton.

Born March 15, 1925, in Clarendon County, she was the seventh child of the late Wayne Vivian Elliott Sr. and Annie Lou Britton Elliott. Miss Elliott was a member of Pisgah Pentecostal Holiness Church. Early in life, her father commented she was such a happy baby that she ought to be called "Joy" and the name stuck. Joy liked bright beaded necklaces, flowery print dresses and blouses, and colorful pocketbooks. She diligently read her Bible daily, reading it through numerous times. At church, she had a favorite pew and during prayer request time, she always called the names of those relatives she corresponded with who had requested prayer. With a high and strong soprano voice, Joy happily sang her favorites along with the congregation. "Joy Unspeakable" and "Oh, I Want To See Him" were two of her favorites.

She is survived by one brother, Richard F. Elliott of Pinewood; and three sisters, Ida E. Jenkinson of Summerton, and Faye E. Coulliette and Ethel E. Barwick, both of Pinewood.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, Wayne Elliott Jr., DuValle W. Elliott, T. Walden Elliott, Marion S. Elliott, Anthony W. Elliott and John F. A. Elliott; and one sister, Virginia Robertson.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at Pisgah Pentecostal Holiness Church, Pinewood. Burial followed at Elliott Family Cemetery at the church in the Panola community of Pinewood.

Memorials may be made to the Elliott Family Cemetery Association, in care of Miriam B. Johnson, 2430 Tearcoat Road, Alcolu, SC 29001.
