Alice M. Jackson Waddell, 94, widow of Harvey Cecil Waddell, died Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Prisma Health Tuomey.
Born Jan. 11, 1931, in Plantersville, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late Furmer Worthington Jackson and Bertha Alice Smitherman Jackson. She was an avid gardener. She was also an excellent cook and well known for her banana pudding, red velvet cakes and macaroni and cheese. “These were made with special ingredients to heal whatever may be ailing you." Mrs. Waddell was loved by all of her neighborhood children, whom she always welcomed into her home and considered as her extended family. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include four children, Michael D. Waddell (Peggy) of Sumter, Cathy Hafner (Mark) of Houston, Texas, Lyle Waddell of Sumter and Lynn Waddell of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Mack Jackson of Northport, Alabama; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Elizabeth Nichols, Dimples Billadeau, Betty Atchison and Evelyn Davenport; and four brothers, Harold Jackson, Thomas Jackson, Rueben Jackson and James Willie Jackson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2025, in Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Charles Owens. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2025, at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.
