FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Aletha Sinkler Devine,daughter of the late Harkless and Dinah Jackson Sinkler, was born on Aug. 25, 1936, in Clarendon County.

She attended the College of New Rochelle School of Nursing, New York, and spent 28 years in the medical profession before accepting an early retirement to care for her ailing father. She married James W. Devine on July 12, 1975.

Survivors include a son, Mel (Mima) Sinkler of Fredericksburg; three daughters, Sheila Sinkler of Baltimore, Md., Hakeim Hawkins (stepdaughter) of Newark, N.J., and Stephanie Hawkins (stepdaughter) of Union, N.J.; two brothers, Elijah Sinkler (Annie) and Malachi Sinkler, both of Baltimore; brother-in-law, Louis (Olivia) Devine Jr. of Detroit, Mich.; four sisters-in-law, Ira M. Bird of Albion, Mich., Gertrude (Joe) Byrd of Elizabeth, N.J., and Nettie (Frank) White and Louise Muldrow, both of Minneapolis, Minn.; grandchildren, Keiona, Adam (Chelsea), Devoan, Tiarah, Mahogany and Kollen; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Aletha was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, James W. Devine; her brother, Richard Nelson; and her brother-in-law, Robert Devine.

Memorial services were held Wednesday at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg.

The family received guests at 405 Portland Drive, Fredericksburg.
