COLUMBIA - Minister Acie Boatright Sr., 104, of 3263 S.C. 260, Manning, widower of Ruth L. Martin Boatright, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at the home of his daughters, Ruth and Sarah Boatright.

Born Aug. 25, 1906, in the Davis Station section of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Selvin and Lottie Carter Boatright. At an early age, he was called into the ministry and attended Elizabeth Baptist Church. His spiritual journey led him to pastoring for more than 40 years at Light Hill Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by three sons and two grandsons.

Survivors include five daughters, Esther Boatright, Ruth Boatright, Sarah Boatright and Margine (Willie) Sills, all of Columbia, and Mary Boatright of Jacksonville, Fla.; six sons, Clarence Boatright, Fredrick Boatright, Acie (Fannie) Boatright Jr. and Jacob Boatright, all of Manning, Abraham Boatright of Ridgeway, and Joseph Boatright of Sumter; one adopted son, Sampson Hammett of Columbia; one sister, Sue Esther King; three daughters-in-law, Helen Billie, Annie Blackwell and Vanessa Boatright; sisters-in-law, Jannie Boatright and Mary Jane Boatright; 37 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 13, 2011, at Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, 4829 Alex Harvin Highway, Manning, with the Rev. Dr. Ashley Vaughn, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Chris D. Keese, the Rev. Richard Mitchell and Minister Essie Banks. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family received friends at the home of his son Fredrick Boatright, 1057 Herod Drive, Manning.
