CLARENDON COUNTY — A $5,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction for the shooting death of Adrionna Lashey “Tutu” Kind.
Kind, 32, was shot along with seven others, including a 12-year-old, five teenagers and a 36-year-old, about 11 p.m. June 4 at a graduation party outside a home in the St. Paul community less than four miles south of Summerton. Kind was airlifted to Prisma Health Richland in Columbia, where she died on June 5.
On the day after the shooting, Clarendon County Sheriff Tim Baxley said the shooting “appears to be a gang-related incident” and asked anyone with information on the shooting to contact his office at (803) 435-4414 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-274-6372.
About noon on June 10, the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office posted a message on its Facebook page about the $5,000 reward stating that the information received must lead to the arrest and conviction for Kind’s death.
A digital sign announcing the reward is also on display on the front lawn of Manning High School.
According to Baxley, witnesses at the party said two vehicles approached the residence. One vehicle stayed on the highway while the other vehicle pulled up into the yard of the residence where the party was occurring. Shots were fired into the crowd before both vehicles sped away south on St. Paul Highway. Baxley said he wasn’t sure whether the shots were fired at specific persons or just randomly into the crowd. The sheriff added at least 60-70 shots were fired during the incident.
“It’s not clear, as of yet, if some of these rounds may have been return fire from some of the subjects at the party,” Baxley said Sunday afternoon.
Tensions have been running high in the Summerton and Manning area since the June 4 shooting with residents of both areas fearing a possible retaliation. Businesses have been closing early. Even though school is out for the summer and students aren't attending Clarendon School District 2 schools, the CSD2 administration sent everyone home and closed the schools several days after the shooting.
On June 7, Baxley addressed the rumors and gossip that have been circulating since the shooting.
In a post on Facebook, Baxley said his office “has received numerous calls today in reference to possible retaliation threats. There are rumors of a shooting at our local Walmart which is false information. We have not had any shootings today. We do not have any credible information of any such activity.”
Baxley added he and Manning Police Chief Keith Grice are working together with other law enforcement agencies to identify the shooters.
“We have extra law enforcement patrolling tonight and in the days to come," he said.
