Three people have been arrested and charged since the killing of a 29-year-old man at a Cherryvale mobile home park Wednesday evening.

The incident took place in American Mobile Home Park, 4400 Broad St., after 7 p.m., where the victim, Xavier Ja’von Ballard, of Wedgefield, sustained a fatal gunshot injury, said Deputy Adrienne Sarvis, public information officer for the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. He was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

According to Sarvis, the shooting reportedly happened after an altercation between Ballard and Zyarriah Myers, 19, of Dalzell. Sheriff's office reports say they were previously in a relationship.

Myers’ current boyfriend, 18-year-old Jamie Golden Jr., of Sumter, and 24-year-old Quincy Dubose, of Sumter, supposedly arrived at the mobile home park sometime later together.

Sarvis said the Golden Jr. told deputies during an interview that he shot Ballard. He was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime; Myers was charged with murder; and Dubose was charged with accessory after the fact.

All three were booked at Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center on Thursday morning. They are all awaiting first appearance hearings that will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Friday.

Next of kin was notified, and an autopsy will be performed Saturday morning at The Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, according to Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker.

This investigation is ongoing.

The Cherryvale mobile home park is also the site of a shooting that happened in August 2019. A Columbia man, 27-year-old Nikeen Johnson, was recently found guilty for attempting to kill two adults and a child. He was sentenced 30 years.
