Another reasonably priced hair salon has opened in Sumter.

Great Clips opened its second franchise in town last month in Gateway Plaza, according to salon employees and a news release.

Gateway Plaza is across the street from Walmart at the intersection of Broad Street and Alice Drive.

As part of a grand opening special rate, all haircuts for adults and children are $6.99 through this Friday. Then, haircuts will go up to their regularly listed price - $12 for adults and $10 for children - at the new salon. For people 65 and older, haircuts are also $10, and the salon also offers a 10% military discount, according to employees.

The plaza has two wings, and Great Clips is in the wing opposite TJ Maxx that extends up toward Broad Street.

The TJ Maxx side is undergoing a demolition and renovation of some existing space and will add three retailers (Ross Dress for Less, Ulta Beauty and Five Below) by early next summer.

The salon is locally owned and operated by Bill Brown, according to the release, and Nikkie Brown, a long-time Sumterite, is the general manager.

"We are all very excited to open our second Sumter location," Nikkie Brown said. "We opened our first Sumter salon more than 10 years ago at Second Mill Shopping Center, next to BiLo."
