27-year-old Sumter man killed in Lewis Road shooting Wednesday afternoon

A 27-year-old Sumter man died after a shooting occurred at a Lewis Road residence Wednesday afternoon. 

Officers responded to a shots fired call around 1:45 p.m., where they found Tarrik Mack-Sumpter wounded in the backyard of his home, according to Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for the Sumter Police Department. Sumpter died at the residence.

According to McGirt, two people in a light-colored vehicle were seen fleeing the area toward McCrays Mill Road at the time of the incident.

The Sumter County Coroner’s Office has notified family members and scheduled an autopsy for Thursday in Charleston.

The police department is investigating, and details will be released as they become available. 

A cash reward may be available for information leading to an arrest.
