2-vehicle collision on Pinewood Road leaves 1 Sumter man dead

A two-vehicle collision in Sumter County left one man dead according to Lance Cpl. Lena Butler with S.C. Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred at approximately 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, on Pinewood Road near Cody Road. A 2015 GMC Arcadia traveling southbound on Pinewood Road and a 2022 Ford F-150 pickup traveling northbound on Pinewood Road collided sending the truck off the roadway and into a ditch. The driver of the Arcadia was airlifted to Prisma Hospital. The driver of the pickup,  Cornelius Mack, 58, of Sumter,  succumbed to injuries at the scene. There were no other occupants in either vehicle.
Next of kin has been notified according to Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker, and an autopsy has been scheduled at the Medical University of South Carolilna in Charleston.
The collision remains under investigation by SCHP.
