A second suspect in connection to the South Guignard Drive shooting has been placed in custody. Sumter Police Department continues its search for a teenage suspect.

In May, 32-year-old Tavares Keiwaun McFadden, of Blanche Road, was killed in a shooting at the intersection of Green Swamp Road and South Guignard Drive. A passenger in the vehicle was also injured.

Fernando Quintez Adams, 20, of Beckridge Drive, the second suspect charged in connection to McFadden’s death, was taken into custody Monday, June 10, by Richland County law enforcement, with assistance from SLED and Richland County Sheriff’s Department. Adams was charged with murder and attempted murder, according to Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for the Sumter Police Department.

The other suspect, Curtis Jefferson, 19, of Mayesville, was placed in custody on May 29 and remains at Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center on charges of murder and attempted murder, according to McGirt.

Police continue to search for a teenager identified in the case who is known to associate with Adam. His name is not being released because of his age, McGirt said.

An investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the police department at (803) 436-2700. A reward of up to $5,000 remains available for information leading to an arrest.
