2 Clarendon Hall students win regional spelling bee, 1 selected as alternate

Clarendon Hall had 12 students participate in the South Carolina Independent School Association Regional Spelling Bee at Wilson Hall on Jan. 15:

Third grade - Charlie Bascom and Cruz Romay; fourth grade - Nelly Clark and Devam Patel; fifth grade - Raegan Smith and Malachi Woodard (alternate - Anderson Cooper); sixth grade - Angelina Clark and Dhara Patel; seventh grade - Nyzir Baker and Ashlee Berry; and eighth grade - Kole Elliott and Navaeh Gallagher.

Dhara Patel and Cruz Romay both won their grade levels and participated in the SCISA State Spelling Bee on Thursday at Williamsburg Academy. Nelly Clark served as an alternate at the State Spelling Bee.

Clarendon Hall media specialist and spelling bee coordinator Susan Oswald praised the students, saying, "This year's competition was one of the most challenging. I am proud of all our students and congratulate Cruz and Dhara on winning and Nelly on serving as an alternate."
