2 charged after pawning stolen goods at Liberty Street shop

Two men have been charged with receiving stolen goods in separate incidents in Sumter County.

Marcus Montrell Garner, 32, reportedly had a Vizio 32-inch smart TV that had been stolen and valued at about $700 along with a Toshiba 50-inch smart TV valued at $2,000, according to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office. The items were reportedly stolen from a residence in Camden.

Garner reportedly pawned the items on July 22 at a local pawn shop on Liberty Street in Sumter and was arrested on Aug. 27, according to an Aug. 14 warrant.

His bond has been set at $33,000, but only $3,000 of it was for the receiving stolen goods charge. According to public inmate records, he is also facing charges of burglary, for which bond was denied and probation violation - $30,000 bond was set. He remains in the Sumter County Sheriff's Office Detention Center.

Earlier in June, a 26-year-old man was arrested on the same charge.

Christopher Michael Harmon had a Stihl backpack sprayer on June 3 that did not belong to him and was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 4400 block of Broad Street in Sumter County, according to the sheriff's office.

It was discovered the sprayer was pawned also at a Liberty Street pawn shop and was valued at about $400.

Harmon was also arrested on Aug. 27, according to a July 26 warrant.

Harmon did not have bond set and awaits a Sept. 18 court date on additional charges of possession of schedule I narcotics, petit or simple larceny, grand larceny of a value between $2,000 and $10,000 and shoplifting of $2,000 or less. He also remains in the county detention center.
