13 railroad crossings in Sumter to close for maintenance beginning March 3

Maintenance for several railroad crossings in Sumter has been scheduled for March.

Sumter Public Safety agencies have been informed that CSX Transportation, the leading supplier of rail-based freight transportation in North America, will be closing 13 railroad crossings in the county beginning Monday, March 3, and ending on Friday, March 14. The crossings will be closed for three to five days.

Due to this, no traffic will be allowed to cross the tracks at the listed locations until work is finished.

Traffic will be rerouted, and there will be signs to mark detour routes.

 Drivers should expect delays or extended travel times during these closures.

Crossings will be closed at the following locations:

  • Sumter Street – closing on or around March 3
  • Council Street – closing on or around March 3
  • McCrays Mill Road – closing on or around March 3
  • Cook Street – closing on or around March 3
  • Lynam Road – closing on or around March 4
  • Pitts Road – will close once Lynam Road is reopened
  • A private road (Shudwe Farm Road) – closing on or around March 10
  • Cane Savannah Road and St. Pauls Church Road – closing on or around March 10
  • Wedgefield Road – closing on or around March 10
  • A private road (adjacent to Wedgefield Road) – closing on or around March 10
  • A private road (adjacent to Wedgefield Road) – closing on or around March 11
  • Knott Road and Bullet Road – closing on or around March 12
  • Bullet Road – closing on or around March 12
