A local man has been arrested and charged after a dispute led to a non-fatal stabbing in the county.

Sumter County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of an argument at a residence along U.S. 15 South where they found a victim with serious injuries. A knife, thought to be the weapon used in the stabbing, was recovered during the investigation, according to Mark Bordeaux, public information officer for the sheriff’s office.

Deputies provided aid to the victim until Sumter County EMS arrived.

Juan Antonio-Chavez, 21, was located nearby and taken into custody, Bordeaux said. He was charged with attempted murder and taken to Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, where his bond was denied.

An investigation is ongoing.
