CONWAY - Zebedee Alexander Pack was the fifth of 10 children born to Joshua and Fannie Pack. He entered this world on March 1, 1947. He departed this life on June 23, 2018.

Zeb, as he was known to family and friends, graduated from Lincoln High School in 1965. He matriculated at Morris College in Sumter and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. He willingly accepted a teaching position in Horry County at the Wampee/Little River High School, where he taught seventh and eighth grade science for a year. With this being the era of the Vietnam War, he was subsequently drafted into the United States Army, where he served for two years. During his tour of duty, he quickly elevated to the rank of sergeant. He also earned the Bronze Star Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge. Following an honorable discharge, Zeb returned to Horry County and resumed his career in education. He served as a biology teacher and head of the science department at Socastee High School for seven years; assistant principal at St. James Middle for three years; Socastee Middle for two years; principal at Green Sea Floyds Middle for five years and Socastee Middle for seven years.

Zeb's hard work and dedication were rewarded with the prestigious appointment as the executive director of the Horry County middle schools. He served in this position for eight and 1/2 years. He also served as the chief officer of youth engagement services for the Horry County School District.

When he was all set to retire, Zeb was called back into duty as the assistant principal for the Horry County Alternative School. Following his official and final retirement, he continued to remain actively involved with the school system.

Zeb was a devoted husband to his wife, Evelyn, for 41 years. They have one daughter, Jacinda, and one grandson, Khadafi.

Through his accomplishments, it is evident that God was the head of his life. Zeb was a faithful, active member and officer of Hemingway Chapel. He actively served as the president of the Sons of Allen; head of the Christian Education department; vice president of the steward board; president of the finance committee; repairman; landscaper; jack-of-all-trades; and, yes, our proverbial "Ram in the Bush."

Zeb's motto was: "Do your best always and the best will come to you." To us, he was the best and we love him dearly!

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Bethlehem No. 1 Missionary Baptist Church. Burial followed at Sandridge Community Cemetery.
