Willie George "Billy" Wright was born on Nov. 8, 1954, in Florence, a son of the late Rev. Willie George Wright Sr. and Lillian Loretta Miller-Wright. He departed this life on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018, in San Antonio.

Billy graduated from Sumter High School in May 1972. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served for five years, receiving an honorable discharge as a master sergeant. He later enrolled as a student at the University of South Carolina, Columbia. He graduated in May 1981 with a bachelor's degree in accounting. Billy was a kind and generous person who loved God and his family. After serving his country and completing his college degree, he entered the workforce. He was employed by Delta Airline of Los Angeles and the USAA of San Antonio. His place of employment at the time of his passing was Wells Fargo Bank of San Antonio as a banker.

Billy leaves to cherish his memories: his companion, Victoria Phillips of San Antonio; seven sisters, Fredricka Wright of Sacramento, Montez Wright of Sumter, Gaile (Lorenzo) River of Sumter, Karon (Earl) Neal of Ponte Vedra, Florida, Ruth Wright of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Mattie McNeil of Lithonia, Georgia, and Marie Wright of Hanover, Maryland; one brother, Marquis Wright of Sumter; two stepbrothers, Demetrius (Angineller) McDuffie of Sumter and Kelvin (Mary Fredereka) McDuffie of Roswell, Georgia; his stepmother, Bernice McDuffie-Wright of Mayesville; five nephews; six nieces; two great-grand- nephews; three grandnieces; and a host of special cousins, close relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Willie George Wright Sr.; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. King Emanuel Miller; and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Wright Jr.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center, 101 S. Salem Ave., Sumter, with the Rev. Cheryl Johnson officiating.
