WH golf wins 9th straight region crown

ORANGEBURG - Wilson Hall's varsity boys golf team won its ninth consecutive title on Thursday, taking the SCISA Region II-3A title on Thursday at Orangeburg Country Club.

Walker Jones led the Barons, who shot a 152, with a 34. Easton Ward and Will Barnes both shot a 39 and Miller Jones shot a 40.

Laurence Manning Academy was second with a 163, while Florence Christian School shot a 169 and Orangeburg Prep shot a 172.

Dawson Shirley and Rutledge Durant both shot a 40 to lead LMA. Van Gardner followed with a 41 and Will Williamson had a 42.

Walker Jones is the Region Player of the Year and Easton Ward was named to the All-Region team.

VARSITY BASEBALL

River Bluff 8

Sumter 4

LEXINGTON - Sumter fell to 20-3 with an 8-4 loss to River Bluff on Thursday at the RB field.

Jordan Holladay had two doubles to lead the Gamecocks. Hampton Rowe also had a double while Dawson Price, Rylan Williams and Daniel Twitty each had a hit and a run batted in.

Sumter plays at Summerville today.

Manning 0

Sumter improved to 10-5 with a 9-0 victory over Manning on Thursday at the SHS field.

Blake Drown and Connor McAlister both scored two goals for the Gamecocks. Roman Childers, Finn McGregor, Davis Fuller, Caleb Turner and Thomas Koty each scored a goal.

Turner had two assists while Chris Reyes, Koty and Jacob Strimpfel each had an assist.

Orangeburg Prep 2

Wilson Hall improved to 2-0 in SCISA Region II-3A with a 12-2, 5-inning win over Orangeburg Prep on Thursday at Patriot Park SportsPlex.

Danielle deHoll had three hits and three RBI to lead the Lady Barons. Drake Ives had two doubles and three RBI, and she was also the winning pitcher, striking out four while allowing just two hits.

Madison Elmore had two hits, two runs and an RBI, Madison Sliwonik and Carly Allred scored twice, Sydney Jarecki had two RBI and Liza Lowder had two stolen bases.

Crestwood 5

Sumter closed out its season with a 17-5 victory over Crestwood on Wednesday at the SHS field.

Tara Rhodes had three hits to lead the Lady Gamecock offense. Erin McCaffrey and Katy Murray both had two hits with three RBI, Taylor Miles had two hits and two RBI and Gabby Kirkman had two hits and an RBI. Shelley McCoy also had two RBI.

Westwood 1

BLYTHEWOOD - Sumter High School closed out its regular season with a 3-1 victory over Westwood on Wednesday at the WHS field.

Sophia Haugton, Courtney Webb and Mary Kate Shaffer each scored a goal for the 9-7 Lady Gamecocks. Maddie Durant had two assist and Deborah Jamison had one.

FLORENCE - Crestwood lost to Wilson 2-1 on penalty kicks on Wednesday at the WHS field.

Jazmyn Taylor scored the 6-9 Lady Knights' goal in regulation. Caylie Kobalcik had the assist.

Shannon Marie had 19 saves in goal.
