A Sumter man who was wanted in multiple jurisdictions on various charges was arrested Tuesday after he led police officers on a car chase.

Tyburious Heyward, 20, of Vaughn Street in South Sumter, was reportedly traveling "in excess of the speed limit" on Poinsett Drive when he was noticed by an officer after 5:30 p.m., according to Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for the Sumter Police Department.

Heyward attempted to escape by continuing to accelerate as the officer learned he was wanted on charges in other jurisdictions, McGirt wrote in a news release, including the State Law Enforcement Division, South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services, the North Carolina Highway Patrol and the Sumter County Sheriff's Office. The pursuit ended after officers safely isolated the suspect's vehicle in a parking lot off Bultman Drive and placed him into custody, McGirt said.

Heyward is being held in the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center after bond was denied Wednesday on charges of habitual offender and failure to stop for blue lights. He also faces charges of driving under suspension-third offense, reckless driving and an ABC violation filed by the police department.

An investigation is continuing.
