WALTER R. HEDRICK

Walter R. Hedrick, 82, widower of Joan Welch Hedrick, died on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, at Palmetto Health Tuomey.

Born in Cumberland, Maryland, he was a son of the late Lemuel P. and Josephine Hymes Hedrick. Mr. Hedrick served in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a Mason and member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol H. Ardis (Wendell Ardis) of Sumter and Brenda H. Huggins (Marion E. Huggins) of Lynchburg; three grandchildren, Ashley A. Ferguson (Chase M. Ferguson), Brittany H. Lowder (Raleigh Lowder) and Austin C. Huggins; and a great-granddaughter, Laney Ann Lowder.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Sonny Hedrick; and a sister, Wilda Hedrick.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. Robert Morris officiating.

The family will receive friends the home, 1345 Walcora Drive, Sumter.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Promiseland Ministries, 1880 Myrtle Beach Highway, Sumter, SC 29153.
