With the national midterms and local and state general elections a little more than a month away, the deadline to register to vote is approaching even quicker.

Applications for voter registration by mail must be postmarked on Tuesday, Oct. 9, or earlier, according to information sent out by the Sumter County Registration and Elections Office. Those who want to complete registration online must submit their application by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7, or earlier, and submitted applications via fax or email must be received by residents' respective voter registration offices by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7.

Voters can register in person no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5. That can be done at the county Board of Voter Registration, located in the county seat of each county and at agencies participating in the National Voter Registration Act.

All personal information must be updated on your voter registration card.
