Veterans Day parade and program to be held Saturday


The Friends of the Sumter County Library Big Book Sale will be held as follows: 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 9-11; and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, "Bag O' Books Day," fill up a bag for $5 (bags issued at the door). Sale is located at The Sumter County Library, 111 N. Harvin St.

The Sumter County Veterans Association's Veterans Day program will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, at the old Sumter County Courthouse on North Main Street. The program will begin at 11 a.m. with Gen. Garrett of the Third Army serving as keynote speaker. Prior to the program, there will be a Veterans Day parade at 10 a.m. on Main Street. The program will honor all veterans, living or deceased, for the service they have given and continue to give to keep our country free. Call Larry E. Sumter Animal Control will hold an adoption event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 1240 Winkles Road. Come out and meet the adoptable pets. There are many great dogs looking for their happily ever after. Can't adopt? There are volunteer opportunities available and we would love to discuss those with you. Unable to adopt or volunteer? The Sumter Branch NAACP's Veterans Day program will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12, at Beulah AME Church, 3175 Florence Highway. Lt. Col. Tammie L. Sledge will serve as keynote speaker.

The SAFE Federal Credit Union Easy Street Dinner will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16, at Seawell's Banquet Facility, Rosewood Drive, Columbia. This dinner is for members of the Easy Street Club, SAFE members who hold an Easy Street checking account for individuals age 50 and older. Clarendon One Community Resource Center Lifting Literacy, a partnership between Clarendon School District One and Save the Children, will launch the Enriching Communities computing project 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 1154 Fourth St., Summerton.
