Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Mark Townes of Sumter announce the engagement of their daughter, Julie Catherine Townes of Charleston, to John Tyler Potter of Charleston, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Dwight Potter of Charleston.The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mrs. Chiquitta Boyles, the late Mary V. Boyles and the late John L. Boyles, all of Kingsport, Tennessee, Mrs. Elsie Beasley and the late Thomas L. Beasley of Lebanon, Tennessee, and the late Arthur R. Townes of Nashville, Tennessee. She attended The College of Charleston and graduated from Trident Technical College with an Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene. She is employed by Trident Dental Partners, Charleston.

The bridegroom-elect is the grandson of Mrs. Georgia Potter and the late Ernest K. Potter of London, Kentucky, and the late Mr. and Mrs. James P. Johnson of Berea, Kentucky. He attended Spartanburg Methodist College and graduated from Tri-County Technical College with an Associate Degree in Business Management. He is employed by the Isle of Palms Water and Sewer Commission.The wedding is planned for Aug. 31, 2018, at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, Mount Pleasant.
