A former Sumter School District 2 board member for five years before district consolidation in 2011, Matthew “Mac” McLeod took the District 3 seat by a wide margin.

With all precincts reporting, McLeod had recorded 40.26 percent of the vote and 1,573 votes. McLeod is currently in his seventh year as a high school teacher at Thomas Sumter Academy.

McLeod said he considered it an honor to serve again as a board member.

“It’s great feeling to get to serve the students and teachers of Sumter County again,” McLeod said. “It was an honor 12 years ago when I was first elected, and it’s just as much an honor tonight. I appreciate everybody’s support.”

Jason Johnson, a 2001 graduate of Lakewood High School, finished second in the voting with 891 votes, or 22.8 percent.

The District 3 seat was previously held by Lucille McQuilla, who served a single four-year term. She announced in August that she would not be seeking re-election.
