Suspect wanted for questioning about church theft

Deputies in Sumter County are searching for a man wanted in connection with a theft from a church on Sunday.

The suspect is wanted for questioning after a man drove up to St. Paul AME Church on North St. Pauls Church Road on Aug. 26 and dumped several tires behind the building, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was seen on surveillance video entering an unlocked front door of the building before exiting with an orange step ladder, and several other items were later noticed missing from inside the church.
