Fatal shooting suspect Demetrius Alexander Brown, 38, was apprehended Wednesday by authorities in Jacksonville, Florida, according to Ken Bell, public information officer for Sumter County Sheriff's Office.

Brown was identified as the suspect in the fatal shooting on Saturday of Sharmine Pack, 34, of Sumter.

Officers responded to Auto Doctors on South Pike Road East on Saturday about 4:30 p.m. to find Pack suffering from “multiple gunshot wounds.” Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker said Pack was transported to Palmetto Health Tuomey, where he died.

Brown, who fled the scene on Saturday, was seen Monday in Jackson County, Georgia, and was being actively searched for by officers in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Texas, all places Brown has been known to live.

The sheriff’s office also asked for assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service and had made Brown’s whereabouts a “nationwide alert.”

Additional information will be released on his arrest as it is provided.
