Sumter School Board may make selection on search firm Monday

Academic achievement and programs highlight the agenda for Sumter School District's Board of Trustees' regular monthly meeting on Monday, along with the potential selection of a superintendent search consulting firm.

A district spokeswoman distributed the meeting agenda on Friday afternoon.

In her report to the board, Interim Superintendent Debbie Hamm will provide a test scores update on recently released state assessments from the spring. Those include the official career readiness assessment administered to all 11th-graders and end-of-course program tests in high school core courses, such as Algebra 1, English 1 and Biology 1.

District administration will also provide a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) overview in schools to the trustees, according to the agenda.

Later in executive session behind closed doors, the board will discuss contract proposals from superintendent search consulting firms that interviewed with the board on Sept. 25 at a special called meeting.

According to the agenda, the trustees may make a selection on a firm when they return to open session. They will also take a vote on eight percent capital bond projects.

Monday's meeting will be at Lemira Elementary School, 952 Fulton St., in South Sumter. The school's students will provide a welcome to board members at the outset of the meeting, which begins at 6 p.m.

Like all board-related meetings, the public is invited to attend. Public participation is also listed on the agenda.
